Ode to my TWA: Teeny Weeny Afro
At 22 months of Sisterlocks, I decided to cut my hair. It was a spiritual decision for me that reflected in a physical way.
1. FREEDOM
I feel lighter, literally. I have less weighing me down. I’ve never had hair this short! This is literally a whole new me.
2. RETIGHTENING
I had over 500 Locs and retightening takes hours. I would retighten my locs every 4 weeks in the states. After over a month in the UAE the retightning time and sessions with travel to locticians felt ridiculous. First of all, I’d have to get it done on the weekend. Second of all, its a 2 hour drive to and from a certified Loctician. Thirdly, it’s at least 3 hours of getting it done. That’s 7 hours out of my 48 hour weekend.
3. LIFE ABROAD
I wanted my hair to be reflective of my individual journey here in the UAE. I wanted my life abroad to be reflective in a new start. As I grow in my time here, so will my hair. Almost 2 years of Sisterlocks reflected a journey where I embraced my natural hair, planned a wedding, got married and celebrating my 1 year wedding anniversary. My TWA will reflect the next 2 years of my life! I’m excited to see the evolution.
Hi dear, you look lovely with and without. I just stumbled on your blog because I have been thinking about getting sisterlocks and wanted to be sure I could get a consultant in the UAE; I will be moving there this month by God’s grace. Could you kindly give the contacts of any sisterlocks consultant over there. Very grateful

Hi, Catherine! Thanks for reading. There aren’t any! There was one in Abu Dhabi and she moved back to the USA! You may be able to find a non-Sister-lock consultant to do them but I didn’t have such luck.
